Choreographer: Pia Meuthen [NETHERLANDS]
Performers: Tarek Rammo
Stripped is an intimate portrait of a man who seeks to understand himself. In dialogue with himself and the public, he reveals different aspects of his character layer by layer. The aerial straps serve as an extension of his body, as a restriction, but also as a step to another reality. The performance was the pilot project of the SSHRC research-creation grant Corporeal Dramaturgy: Redistributing Agency in Dance which took advantage of my longstanding collaboration with Dutch-German choreographer Pia Meuthen, to explore agency and hierarchies in the creative process when the dramaturgy of the performer is central. Aerial strap artist Tarek Rammo’s personality, background and relationship with his discipline were the starting points of this 30-minute creation.
