Requiem Pop (2019)

Choreographer: Helen Simard [CANADA]

Six dancers and three musicians tackle the most recent period of life of the emblematic singer Iggy Pop to distil a universal matter: an incarnate, dishevelled and poetic reflection on the ageing and mythification of the artist. REQUIEM POP is the last part of a triptych inspired by the “grandfather” of punk rock. But each piece forms a work in its own right. Far from sketching a portrait of Iggy Pop, Helen Simard highlights the paradoxes of the rock star, a character as whimsical as it is charismatic, which is erected as a popular icon.
