Concept & performance: Angélique Willkie / Solo presented in Festival Quartiers Danses [CAN – Montreal]
Loosely inspired by the life of Josephine Baker, the creative research of this solo centred around the parallels between my own experiences as a black female dancer/singer from the New World who built her career in Europe and those of Baker who lived and worked so many generations earlier. This creation has been the catalyst for my reflections on my racialized performer body and its inherent dramaturgy in creative processes.
